The Kitchen is one of our favorite areas within a home. Whether you are cooking, spending time with family or entertaining guests, this room can become an active gathering space. One of the most important features in the kitchen is the island. Although we love a beautiful built-in piece, not all kitchens have the ability to have something so permanent. If you are looking for more flexibility within your kitchen, or simply do not have the room for a traditional built-in island, there are alternate options for you. We like to incorporate easily moveable islands/carts and decorative tables as an added work surface into a kitchen. Whether you need something large or small, wheels or no wheels, an island with shelf storage or drawers, there are so many great options out there for you! Instead of trying to match your island/cart to the rest of the materials in your kitchen (which of course works well), sometimes it’s fun to find something with a bit more contrast. Adding a different material into your space such as an island made out of metal, wood, or even a different type of stone than your counter tops can really make a statement. Many of the kitchen islands we have been seeing lately are starting to feel more like furniture pieces within the space. We love how this makes the space feel more inviting and eclectic. Below are some kitchens that got the "alternate island" right!
