Anyone else have a thing for contrast kitchens?! Don't get us wrong... we LOVE a predominantly white kitchen, but right now we just can't get enough of the contrast kitchen trend. This Studio McGee Mountain Home Kitchen is a perfect example and one of our absolute favorites. Although this kitchen is high in contrast it still feels bright and airy. We love the use of natural wood elements and the mixture of metals. Below we share some of our favorite concepts for achieving this trend and how you can get the look yourself!
When creating a contrast kitchen, you first start with the color of your cabinets and other millwork that is in the space. Painting them a dark color adds just the right punch, while maintaining balance with other materials that are lighter in color. We like to keep the walls, counter top surfaces and backsplashes lighter - typically white. This always makes the space feel more clean and bright. The use of open shelving in your space will make it feel more open and allows items to be easily accessible while in the kitchen. The shelving can be functional and used to store everyday glasses and dishes, while also displaying pretty items such as wood cutting boards and nice cookware. We also believe that adding a touch of natural wood to the space is a must to balance out the high contrast. This will make your space feel warmer and more inviting. Display cabinets are another great element to incorporate into your kitchen. These cabinets can be used to store your fancier dishware and glassware while adding a sophisticated look to your millwork.
